What is CSD?

The Central Supplier Database (CSD) is a database that serves as a source of all supplier information in South Africa. All supplier information is verified with the various institutions and governing bodies like Companies and Intellectual Property Commission (CIPC), South African Revenue Service (SARS), Department of Employment and Labour and Home Affairs.

The recent amendments to the law also require you to navigate Beneficial Ownership at the CIPC when registered on the Central Supplier Database.

The CSD intends to streamline the process of registration for prospective suppliers with each individual Organ of State they intend doing business with.

If you are planning on Tendering or applying for Contracts within the Government, you will then be required to register on the CSD in order to comply with the Government’s Tender/Contract requirements. The Government verifies your Email, Cell Phone and Banking Details. They also verify your CIPC Company Registration Number and Tax Clearance.

Only one CSD profile can be created per User ID number and email address, but you may have up to five (5) companies registered under your profile.

It’s recommended for suppliers to review and update their CSD profiles regularly (every 6 months), especially when there are changes in their business details, to ensure they remain compliant and eligible for government contract opportunities.

The CSD will enable automated verification of government employees.

Yes, foreign companies interested in doing business with the government can register with the CSD. However, they may need to provide specific details such as a Foreign Company Registration number or ISIN.

You will need a valid South African cellphone number (you will receive an OTP via SMS), valid email address, tax information from SARS, a Beneficial Ownership Certificate and a Business Bank account.

You will require the following documents:
